What do people in your role actually earn?

Know your number before your next negotiation

Healthcare pay varies enormously by state and role — a registered nurse's median wage differs by tens of thousands of dollars a year between states. Employers know these numbers; most nurses don't. This checker puts the official government wage data — the May 2025 BLS survey covering millions of healthcare workers — in your hands, then goes one step further: showing where you fall on the curve and what typically moves people up it.

Covered roles: Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN), Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Nurse Midwife, Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant, Home Health & Personal Care Aide, Phlebotomist, Surgical Technologist. Frequently asked questions

Where does the salary data come from?

All wage ranges come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics survey (May 2025 release) — the same official data economists use. We show the published 10th–90th percentile range for your role and state.

Is my salary stored anywhere?

No. The pay you enter is compared against the public wage data right in your browser — it is never stored on our servers, sent to analytics, or shared. Only your role, state, and rough percentile band are used to build your raise plan.

How accurate is the percentile estimate?

Your percentile is interpolated between the official published percentile points for your role and state, so it's a solid estimate — not an exact rank. The experience comparison is a CaresLink heuristic, since BLS doesn't publish wages by years of experience.

What's in the raise plan?

A short, honest list of moves that typically raise pay for your role — certifications with realistic differentials, higher-paying settings, and longer-term path upgrades — ranked for your experience level, with time, cost, and the courses that get you there. Certification differentials only apply where your employer has a certification-pay policy, and we say so.

Which roles are covered?

Ten nursing and nursing-adjacent roles: registered nurse, nurse practitioner, LPN/LVN, nurse anesthetist, nurse midwife, nursing assistant, medical assistant, home health aide, phlebotomist, and surgical technologist.
